An experimental programme has been conceived in order to check the reliability of sonic pile testing in the assessment of pile geometry, and to evaluate the role played by several factors on the quality of test results. According to this programme, a large amount of piles in different sites have been supervised and tested, in order to collect a wide experimental evidence covering differenti pile geometries, construction techniques and geotechnical conditions. In this paper, after a short description of the experimental programme, some results are presented and discussed, demonstrating the reliability of sonic tests in the assessment of pile lengths. Future developments of this research are also discussed, and guidelines for planning sonic tests are eventually provided.

Abstract
An experimental programme has been conceived in order to check the reliability of sonic pile testing in the assessment of pile geometry, and to evaluate the role played by several factors on the quality of test results. According to this programme, a large amount of piles in different sites have been supervised and tested, in order to collect a wide experimental evidence covering differenti pile geometries, construction techniques and geotechnical conditions. In this paper, after a short description of the experimental programme, some results are presented and discussed, demonstrating the reliability of sonic tests in the assessment of pile lengths. Future developments of this research are also discussed, and guidelines for planning sonic tests are eventually provided.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
