Abstract

In the design of piled rafts, piles can be considered essentially as a means to reduce the settlement and the stress state of the raft. in order to obtain a substantial saving in the number of piles, analysis procedures of the behaviour of the raft-piles-soil system have to account for the load taken by the soil, assuming the raft in direct contact with the soil itself. In this paper two analysis procedures are presented, both accounting for nonlinearities in pile behaviour.
