Abstract

Perspectives of reuse of industrial waste and by-products of inorganic nature are very attractive in Italy, where landfill management is complex and expensive, due to both severity of current legislation and scarce availability of suitable sites. There is an urgent need for researches pointing at developing utilizations of desulphogypsum, the chemical gypsum generated in large amounts by the desulfurization plants within the coal-fired power stations. Proposals of combined uses of desulphogypsum and fly ash for making non-traditional building materials are here presented and discussed.
