Three σ-bonded tetraazaannulenic complexes of Co(III), [tetramethyltetraaza[14]annulene(R-Co)] (R=CH3, C2H5 or C6H5), have been synthesized. The complexes have been studied by cyclic voltammetry. Two anodie waves, imputable to monoelectronic, ligand-centered, oxidative processes are found at about +0.7 and +1.1 V, only moderately influenced by the R group. The cathodic region exhibits two waves around 1̄.3 and 1̄.6 V. Growth of thin films by 6-6′ σ polymerization of the monomers on Pt surface in CH3CN/0.1 M [TBA][BF4] by consecutive potential scans in the range +1.40→1̄.80 V (versus NHE) is observed. Electrochemieal evidence for the absence of CoC bond cleavage during electropolymerization is reported.
