This paper deals with a landslide in clayey soil. It reports a brief geotechnical characterization, pore pressure measurements and the results of theoretical analyses carried out in order to evaluate the influence of a drainage system on pore pressure distribution and on the slope safety factor. The analyses were carried out with both two and three-dimensional commercial finite element codes and the calculated piezometric head values were compared to the values measured before and after the construction of the drainage system. The results show that the system, due to its insufficient depth, does not influence significantly pore pressures on the shear zone.

Abstract

This paper deals with a landslide in clayey soil. It reports a brief geotechnical characterization, pore pressure measurements and the results of theoretical analyses carried out in order to evaluate the influence of a drainage system on pore pressure distribution and on the slope safety factor. The analyses were carried out with both two and three-dimensional commercial finite element codes and the calculated piezometric head values were compared to the values measured before and after the construction of the drainage system. The results show that the system, due to its insufficient depth, does not influence significantly pore pressures on the shear zone.
