Nous nous proposons ici de rendre compte des « mises en scène » des évolutions intimes et sociétales de la figure de l’« homme noir » – topos littéraire majeur et récurrent dans l’oeuvre d’Henry Bauchau –, à travers lesquelles il retrace et analyse les sentiments et les comportements ambigus qui ont caractérisé et marqué sa génération aux prises avec les drames engendrés par la Deuxième Guerre mondiale, les contraintes blessantes d’une société aux valeurs étanches, l’espérance d’une vie équilibrée et l’affirmation du mal absolu.
