Abstract

Cryopreservation is a crucial challenge for genetic banking of endangerous species. Several reasons moved the scientific interests of cryopreservation towards oocytes, which turned out to be more sensitive to freeze damages than embryos. Vitrification is a technique which schedules rapid cooling and warming rates in the presence of very high concentration of cryoprotectants. This avoids intracellular icecrystal formation and decreases chilling injuries. This study was designed to evaluate vitrification of immature cat oocytes by using the same method but 2 different containers, i.e., straw vs. capillary. Based on Trypan Bleu staining, survival rate was higher in capillary than in straw group (42.4% vs 22.9%; P< 0.01). This finding may be addressed to the drop size which was 30 times smaller in the former group.
